Here’s a little secret about Mexico City: some of the best meals aren’t in the famous restaurants you’ve already bookmarked. They’re hiding inside places you’d never think to look — like a 100-year-old mansion full of Mexican design.

Let us explain.

A mansion in the heart of Mexico City

Ten minutes’ walk from Paseo de la Reforma, in the middle of Colonia Juárez, there’s an early-1900s mansion that looks like it has stories to tell. It does. For 20 years, Bazar Fusión has been the place where Mexico City discovers its own designers — no middlemen, no mass production, just 70+ independent Mexican brands under one very beautiful roof. After 100 pop-up editions around the city, it finally settled here, on Londres 37.

Juárez, if you haven’t wandered it yet, is the neighborhood in between: quieter than Roma, less polished than Polanco, and full of the kind of corners locals keep to themselves. You’re also steps away from the Chocolate Museum, which is exactly the kind of sentence that should convince anyone.

Petit Roquefort: breakfast at any hour (the correct way to live)

Inside the house you’ll find Petit Roquefort, an all-day breakfast spot — and in Mexico City, breakfast is not a meal, it’s a philosophy.

Go big with the Breakfast Platter or the chicken waffle, or keep it light with toasts, salads and a vegan bowl. But if it’s your first time here, do the right thing and order the chilaquiles: crispy tortilla chips drowned in salsa, and one of the great breakfast inventions of humankind. (Enfrijoladas — the black-bean cousin — are the move if you want something cozier.)

Everything comes out looking like it was plated for a magazine, so your camera eats first. Pair it with a matcha, a taro latte or proper specialty coffee, and whatever you do, leave room for the carrot cake. People have feelings about that carrot cake.

Groove: pizza, but make it Mexican

Pizza and pasta exist everywhere. Pizza with chapulines — yes, grasshoppers, yes, delicious, yes, you should — does not. Groove’s menu is a love letter to Mexico disguised as an Italian restaurant: there’s a famous guacamole pizza served with salsa macha, and classics like the six-cheese or a Margherita if you’re easing in. Homemade pastas, bread baked right there, and a tinto de verano on the terrace. It’s the kind of lunch that makes you cancel your afternoon plans on purpose.

Weekends: edible souvenirs

On Saturdays and Sundays, guest food brands set up around the house — artisanal salsas, single-origin cacao, chocolate truffles. Which solves the eternal traveler problem: what to bring back that isn’t airport junk. Your suitcase has room for salsa. Make room for salsa.

And then there’s everything else

Here’s the thing: you come for breakfast and accidentally stay all afternoon. Between courses you can wander the mansion and browse fashion, jewelry, footwear and self-care — all designed and made in Mexico, by the people who actually make it. Bring your dog (seriously, it’s pet-friendly), take the terraces slowly, and leave with something you won’t find anywhere else on earth.

If you’re visiting Mexico City, this is the un-touristy stop your itinerary is missing. If you live here — you already know, and if you don’t, now you do.
